In the course of the week, I encountered someone who wanted me to pray for a woman; a 75 year-old woman. She is so devoted to the things of God and has been consistent in her service to God, owns an NGO and several other establishments that have been of great help to people.
With the much passion she has for the things of God, she is soon becoming overly worried that none of her biological children were picking any form of interest in her labour for the Lord over the years. And because she earnestly desired that the work continues steadfastly even after her demise, she sought prayers.
Firstly, I was amazed at the many things she had done and it gladdened my heart to see an aged woman still burning in her love for God. However, I inquired if there are any committed folks who have been with her all the years through the various stages of her work, and she said, “Yes.”
I asked, “Who are they to you then? If they’re not your children yet, then you’ve only been using them all through the years.”
I couldn’t pray for her in the manner she requested because she was working according to the principles of this earth and not of the kingdom. Because by the principle of the kingdom, what determines family is not biology, but spirituality.
And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
Mark 3:32-35 KJV
This is true Christianity!
Jesus had siblings (See, Matthew 13:55-56). Notably amongst them are James (who wrote the book of James) and Jude (who wrote the book of Jude). James was a Pharisee and was recognised by the political system as a religious man. He was the Pastor of the Jerusalem Church. But do you also realise that Jesus handed over the Church to Peter, and not any of his supposed biological siblings? (John 21:15-17).
Did you also observe that John was not the biological son of Mary, but Jesus, while on the cross, handed Mary to him to take care of (John 19:26-27). He didn’t ask John to tell his siblings to take care of Mary.
Anyone who is training a biological sibling for the purpose of taking over a position is carnal.
We have practiced Christianity wrongly for a long time and the wrong has unfortunately become the norm.
Even when Peter wasn’t perfectly doing the job as he wasn’t reaching out to the Gentiles, why did Jesus not remember to call a James or Jude? Instead, He called an ‘unknown’ Saul who, at the time, was persecuting the Church.
Until your Christianity passes from death to life, you don’t know eternal life. You can’t lay hold on eternal life with the reasoning of this world. To be carnally minded is death (Romans 8:6).
You call people “Brother this” and “Sister that,” yet you don’t see them as siblings because you see those as Church titles.
Jesus said that His family are those who do the will of God. Is that the same for you? This is real Christianity.
Jesus came that we might have life (John 10:10). Christianity is a life. Ministry is our life. If Christianity has not become your life yet, it is your religion.
